Callaway Elementary School Reviews

This school has gotten better over the last two years. I feel as though the teachers do care and do work with you and your child if you are putting the effort in. The office staff has gotten much better this last year passing then the year before. The principle is still in need of some bedside manner.

The teachers give 100% and the principal is available for students, teachers and parents either by phone, in person or by e-mail. My son is in 4th grade and his teacher, Mrs. Sampson is the best teacher. She inspires the students to explore all disciplines to open the world around them.

I relocated from Ft. Lauderdale in 2006 and was very concerned about the fact that my boys (K & 2nd grade at the time) were zoned to go to Callaway/ Based on what I had read at the time, all of the reveiws were based on previous administration so I didn't know if the school would continue to decline or head in the right direction. I'm happy to say that Mr. Fuller and his staff are doing an excellent job!!Mr. P (SCORE/gifted teacher), Mrs. Watkins, Mrs. Abdullah, Mrs. George, and Mrs. Thompson are all GREAT! Go Knights!

My daughter is enrolled in Kindergarten there. Her teacher is interested in the class academics of the students, but I gathered that she feels the parent participation in her class is inadequate. I help where I can but that's just because I want to. I am determined to help the village that is helping me. The parents do come out to the PTA meetings but there could always be more participation overall. Mr. Fuller, the principal, does his best with what was left to him by the previous principal. I think he is doing a fine job and he shows genuine interest in the school. I'm glad we are attending Callaway and I plan to do My part to help my daughter and the school succeed.

I am very pleased with callaway elementary school. My child is an 'a' student and with any school regardless of where it is you as a parent have to take responsibility. Before school starts I always ask for a teachers bio in order to place my child with the best teacher possible. I am very active in the school functions at school as well as at home with homework and reviewing material. Callaway is clean, focused and has a very qualified staff. The new principal has stepped up to the plate and is doing a wonderful job! after reading some of the negative responses I find that as a parent we are the very first teachers our kids have and we need to be involved, this is a group effort parents + teachers + students = success! Way to go callaway keep up the great job!

Callaway is one of the BEST schools in Clayton County. It has made AYP for 3 years in a row--outstanding! That means--the teachers must be doing their job in teaching the students. In fact, Callaway led the 5th grade 2006 CRCT Math test scores--having almost a 98% passing rate! The teachers go above and beyond to make sure all students are learning. Students participate in Callaway's Chorus, 5th Grade Cadet Program, PTA programs, Field Day, Soc. Studies Fair, 4-H CPA, Black History, Cinco de Mayo school parade, and a Veteran's Day parade. The school is in need of more parental support and involvement. Only a few parents come out and support the PTA and volunteer at the school on a consistent basis. Hopefully, more parents will get involve in their child's education--it will make a big difference, you bet! Way to go --Callaway!

I think the teachers really care about the students. There was one stand-out first grade teacher in particular. However due to the fact that our schools are always inadequately funded, classroom sizes inhibit the teachers from doing more. They have to contend with too wide a range of student abilities as well. I liked the diversity of student body. Our little boys tended to need extra help, though, and many to want to bully others. This took away from the academic environment.

'Callaway is an excellent school. My son's kindergarten teacher worked with him one on one to make sure he was caught up with the rest of his class by the end of the school year. The principal and teachers are very much involved with the student's learning. I would highly recommend this school.'

This is not a vary good school. Unfortunately the principal and assistant principal have no tact and the teachers are not very good instructional leaders. It appears as if they are not interested in the learning ability of the studet.

This is the one of the worst schools in the clayton county school system. The prinicipal is the sorriest principal in the state of georgia. No leadership and lack of interest in her students. The school as a whole lacks professionalism from the principal to the teacherse.

This school has poor leadership! The principle needs to be replaced...
