Dekalb School of the Arts Reviews

im a student i happen to feel that dsa has superior academics and they afe not average if your child wants to grow as person, academically, and in the arts this is the place to be. I happen to feel that dsa students are warm and comforting. I dont find the students smooty!

I am a current d.S.A. Student and i would say that this school is a good school.Although thi school has mostly singers dancers and actors its still a good school. The instrumental program is pretty good 2 but i would have to say that i wish that the concert band could be better but the jazz band and the orchestra are really great! we also have a lot of talented artists 2.

I do not believe there is a perfect school for all students. My older son went to the perfect nearby local school for him - more traditional. DSA however was perfect for my second son! The Arts are very important here and the staff is top of the line. They are willing to help make students successful. Judgemental and snooty? Maybe focused on success and preoccupied with getting SO much done (35 productions in 9 months). There are the academically inclined here as well. Because of the small numbers per class (43 students in the senior class) every one knows everyone and there are not many places to hide - academically or in your arts specialialty. The focus is on Dance and Theater but the Choral and Instrumental Departments are coming along. It is a pretty good prep for 'triple threat' folks. Parents beware: DSA requires that YOU be active.

I also attended Dekalb School of the Arts, and there are plenty of pros and cons to this school. The principal is a very invollved, considerate person and I consider this as a pro. As the student below me said, I would consider the student body to be a bit judgemental and snooty. All teachers are excellent!!!! If you are in search for a traditional high school experience, this school may not be the best choice. But if you are arts driven, passionate, and recieve constructive criticism and apply it well, this is the place to be!

I am a current student at Dekalb School of the Arts, and I can honesty say that the academics are average, but are acceptable and will definitley prepare you for college. However, if you decide to attend this school, you will not have an enjoyable experience. The student body is very judgemental, and the arts are very biased, as they are based on favoritism. Unless you are a dancer or actress at my school, your art will be underfunded and under respected. If all you care about is academics, and not having an enjoyable high school experience, this school is for you.

This performing arts high school is ideal for the child who goes above and beyond the standard artistic classes at their 'home' school. When they come here, they are exposed to professional events and learn what they may someday become. The classes are more challenging than those of public schools which shows the responsibility your child is able to posess by juggling rehersals and homework at the same time. I advise any parent to look into this school. For I love it dearly.
