We have three children--one a graduate of SCHS and two more currently attending. Academics in my opinion are excellent. As far as parent involvement, that is a little lacking, but we do not consider it the school's fault. Parents have to want to participate in the activities or in volunteering. SCHS offers some great academic electives---some taught by Marlene Holland---and has a great staff. Whenever there has been an issue, which was usually minor, it has always been handled professionally with attention to the student's issues/needs. My children are motivated learners and the teachers at Sandy Creek have given them excellent opportunities to develop their love of learning. Certain programs must be mentioned, Art with Mrs. Fletcher, World Cultures, Environmental Science with Mrs Wolfe, Advanced Math courses are all excellent. The teachers manage to produce excellent students in an environment that is the most diverse in Fayette County in terms of economics and ethnicity. A student is just as likely to sit beside the child of black millionaires or white farmers. And they all seem to get along very well. Quality of academic programs is good, extracurricular activities are awesome. Teachers are interested in the children's success and are willing to spend extra, meaningful time with them. She feels that the school prefers and puts a lot more effort into helping the cheerleaders, but overall Sandy Creek has a great variety and choice in extra curricular activities. The music department, I think, lacks when it comes to crowd pleasing. My daughter regularly complains on the lack on entertainment at games, and I find myself agreeing with her. I think the parents are very involved in the lives of their children at Sandy Creek, but I wish the PTO was more active or at least to my knowlede it isnt. I havent recieved any type of communication saying there is a meeting, but I am not sure.
