Shamrock Middle School Reviews

To rate this school, you should visit Henderson Middle near Northlake, Peachtree Middle Charter on Tilly Mill, Renfroe Middle in Decatur, Inman Middle in Virginal Highlands, and Riverwood in Sandy Springs. After visiting those schools you will form your own well-researched opinion. You will find that Shamrock is an uninspiring, very institutional, not exciting, school. It may get the job done, but your child will bloom better somewhere else.

I do not rate this school so very high in the special needs program for children. Some of the teachers should not be with the special needs children. Some of the teachers that they have should work with the children more then they are allowed. They need to give some more support to the special needs programs and stop trying to cut cost so much.

I also feel that there needs to be some sort of class on organization for the incoming 6th graders and they do need to go to their lockers more so they don't have to carry around so much stuff. My child is now in the 7th grade and can go to the locker more and I helped him get organized with a binder for each class with supplies in the binder. 7th Graders also eat earlier which I am thankful for. I do disagree that the 6th graders eat last, they should be first because they are the youngest and need more nourishment more often then the 8th graders. The 8th graders should eat last they are bigger and stronger.

I think this school is ok it has great teachers but, I think that they could have more classes; as in reading and a class for children who are not so orginized. The 6th grade class should be getting more time for things like locker breaks and time to switch for classes. They should also let 6th graders play sports and try out for things such as football, basketball, cheerleading, step team, track and things and activitys like that. I also think that they should have the 6th grade 7th grade and 8th grade move around the school more(class wise) They should also let you talk in the morning when you get to school. They should listen to the kids ideas of what they would like to happen to the school like an idea box and they could cme up with some things for the school.

There is a need to expand on the Visual Art Program. The Visual Art class is good but would like to see more Art classes at different levels.

I am a student at shamrock and i am in the 7th grade. I must say that 6ht grade is so much better. The teachers in the 7th grade really just dont care. For example i was in class one and day and i raised my hand because i had a question. The teachers' responce was 'what do you want.'I had always been a little intimidated by the teacher and that comment didnt help. I said'i dont understand how to do _______.'She replied 'what do you mean you dont understand_________? Thats your problem not mine. Deal with it.'I was shocked. I knew that she had always been a little strictbut shes' the teacher and that is her job to.' My mom had a conference with her. During the conference the teacher made comments like' the kids are supposed to be afraid of me' and other rude remarks. The teacher quality, horrible!

My child attends the sharock and the feedback I recieve from the children and parents concerning the teachers are awful. They have no respect for the children and there is constant negative words being said in the classroom to the children. We are new in the area and have traveled all over the world and this is the worst I have ever heard on how the teachers talk to the children and do not show any conern or help. The teachers are leaders and and what the teachers show and do will follow students for the rest of their lives. They have monitors, but do they have the volume up on how the teachers are talking negative to the students and what they say to them. I will be keeping a close eye on my child's teacher. My child comes home upset daily becuase her teacher negative words. Check your staff.

Shamrock is a great school with many great teachers. The leadership is dedicated and works well with parents. The band program is excellent. The biggest draw back this year are the class sizes, 30 is average and a few have more kids. This is a function of state guidelines rather than school choice. Unfortunately the county continues to transfer kids in under the no child left behind program.

This school has great leadership. The teachers try hard and are accessible by e-mail or appointment. The student body is diverse. Strong anti-bullying, anti-drug, anti-violence, anti-truancy programs. Facilities are a little old. Popular culture very big among students, not much peer support for academic achievment.
