During the past 15 years, the school has been plagued with incompetent administrators, low teacher morale and unsupportive parents. Before this, Morrow had excellent, stable administrators, committed faculty members and supportive parents. This resulted in an outstanding student body. Morrow was a great place to teach. It saddens me to think how it has deteriorated. The incompetence in the school system, in general, is dispicable.” Posted By: former student Quality Score: 2 2007-03-12 “I am a formal student of MHS, class of 2005, and my experience was fair. I had teachers who were very helpful and knowledgeable about their subjects. However, the school lacks many classes need to enrich students for graduation. The safety at the school is poor and there is very limited parental involvement. The principal should check-in on active classes more often. But, student progress and grades can be viewed via web and when a student is absent from school a phone call is made. The school has had some much needed renovation which has helped. During my child's attendance students were seen standing around the campus during school time obviously not attempting to attend class without apparent redress. A significant number of students do not receive any useful computer training and come out of High School unprepared for college or work. Students break school rules all the time and nothing happens. The turn over of staff is scary. Many parents talk negative about this school but if you never went there you dont actually know whats going on inside the classrooms. Alot of students ask for help after they have failed and its to late to make it up. I feel that my teachers were excellent and they influenced me to be successful. My children have asked on several occasion for assistance with understanding materials and have been pushed to the side with comments like (come back tomorrow) and guess what tomorrow never comes. Extracurricular activities are very good. As anywhere else, you have to put something in to get something out. Morrow's biggest problem is that it is over crowded with no releif in sight. Morrow's principal is one of the most caring men I have ever met and he cares for each of his students. For the most part, the entire staff is dedicated to the success of the students. Its over crowded, no-one seems to care, and it's just not a good learning environment if you want a good education. If I had the opportunity to go to a different school I would leave no questions asked. The teachers are slow, the students are so rude and ghetto, and I don't think I have ever seen the principal. Parents expect teachers to do what they should do for their kids; which is parent them. Students go to school dress inappropriately and parents indulge them. Where are the parents when students leave home. Most parents never attend PTA meetings yet complain that they know nothing about the school. Parents stop expecting teachers to parent your children. This is your responsibility not the school. Most of their behaviors at school disrupt other students and stops the learning parents. I have seen parent at this school cuss out administrators for students discipline infractions. Yes, it is the parent's responsibility to not allow their kids to dress that way, but if they don't then the school should corrected it. I know schools that, if the parents are too sorry to monitor their childs dress, then the school handle it. I have had the pleasure of volunteering at the school. The facuilty does uphold the dress code. The problem is we (the parents) allow our children to go to that school dressed like they are going to the mall. What is strange we have the audacity to blame the school for our failure to monitor our schools dress. We have a part to play in our childrens education, yet we fall short and blame the school. The people at MHS are trained to educate yet we want them to parent. Fellow parents, step up to the plate. I challenge you to volunteer and actually see what is going on in that school. Did you know for this school year (2003-2004) MHS is the only CCPS school that met AYP? This means that MHS met the Requirements for 'No Child Left Behind'. That in itself says that academically they are meeting standards. Also did you know that MHS has a Social Studies teacher who is the 'Georgia Social Studies teacher of the Year' (Andrew White)? Did you know that MHS will be attempting to address student failures through the creation of a freshman transition program? Did you know that many students received academic and athletic scholarships this past year? The administrative team is great. I asked him why is it better that my son come to your school as opposed to another local school. He replied, 'we have wonderful people who care about our children, there is unlimited parent access, although it seldomly used, to the school even to pay a suprise visit to your child, and the administrative team has an open door policy.' I have found that to be a true statement. He also said there is a shared reponsibilty in educating your child. He said I will make sure the atmosphere is conducive, the teachers will teach, your child's responsibilty is to learn and your job will be to make sure he is in the right frame of mind for learning. So had boys tested. They were still 4th grade and 5th grade level. Yet they passed with good grades from 4th-8th. School gave them lying grades said they taught it boys mastered it. yet when tested at 15 and 16 could not do middle school level in all subjects.did they pass them so school looked better but did not teach them.
