The Heiskell School Reviews

Our child has attended the school since kindergarten. It is similar to the way schools were run generations ago. The school is based mainly on christian theology. They are strict and children/teachers must adhere to the policy. Academics are above average and the classes have a small student to teacher ratio. The Heiskell School does not have the modern tools that many schools currently provide. Extra curricular activities are at a minimum and children are expected to follow rules of conduct that can at times, cause self-esteem issues. We have noticed a recent drop in quality and generally, communication to the parent has not been their strong suite.

I attended this school, and hated it. I now attend Mount Paran Christian School in Kennesaw. I had a lot of good friends at Heiskell, but the teachers were very rude and strict, and the musical program was terrible.

The Heiskell School offers good academic programs for children during the elementary years. Structured learning plays a very big role in the school. Unfortunately, that stops after the fifth grade. My child was labeled by the teachers which hurt her self-esteem so much I had to the seek spiritual and professional counsel to help her with the problems encountered at the school. I don't understand how or why educators would do this to a child, but I regret placing my child in the middle school. My experience taught me to trust my instincts and research problems on my own or through other professional sources.

Of all of the Buckhead schools, Heiskell is the one we preferred for our children. The character/stature of the Heiskell family, principals/faculty is impressive. Children are understood and loved. The school is similar in quality to what previous generations expected out of an education: nurturing, preparation for prep school and life, leadership development, protection of child's mind and physical safety, Christian viewpoint, high standards, joy, confidence. The library has more volumes per student than the top private schools. Faculty/staff are avail./responsive for conferences. The school identifies any obstacles (LD's) to learning very early in order that parents have the option to not let this become a stumbling block. The private school track is more demanding and may be a surprize to those educated in public schools yet the staff educates parents too. Heiskell children test top in nation and in Atlanta and have beautiful manners befitting future leaders.

My son attended the Heiskell School from 4 year old kindergarten through 7th grade. He had some vision and hearing problems, yet was well prepared for high school and college. He scored 1540 on his SAT and graduated with honors from an International Baccalaureate High School. He received a full scholarship to attend college. My second child is currently enrolled at this school and she is happy and performing academically above her grade level. We love the school and the teachers. Parental and family involvement is strongly encouraged. The staff really care about the students. I feel like the school gave my children a strong academic base, as well as a moral foundation that will help them flourish in this challenging world. Heiskell offers the usual extracurricular programs which we supplement with sports and academic programs in our county and at Ga. State, KSU, and Duke.

My son attended the pre-school and we had very mixed feelings. While disiplne was good, we could not come in to the school with a scheduled appointment. So if there was a conflict we had to go soley on the school's opinion. As our son was still so young and we were used to more parental interaction, it was not always what we expected. Yes the school is a good school; however they need to be more aware that every child does not fit into the same mold.

Our three children have thrived at the Heiskell school. It is a wonderful, loving environment and our children receive an excellent Christian education. We are thrilled with our experience there (of seven years).

Our son started at Heiskell when he was two. Heiskell has nurtured, loved, and disciplined him like we have at home. It is a top-notch school with top-notch academics. I have never seen so well-behaved two-year olds. Truly unbelievable. Discipline and academics -- that's what they're known for!

OUr son attended the Heiskell school in PK4 and Kindergarten. The curriculim was great, but there's no clinic at this school. We lived an hour away, and everytime our son got sick at school, we found him sitting in a very cold bathroom for an hour. That always broke my heart. Also, they recommended our very bright child to be tested for learning disability in Kindergarten. Our whole experience at this school was very unpleasant. Thank goodness our son was not very affected by it. He's now a rising 6th grader at a wonderful Catholic school and he doesn't seem to be affected in any way by his negative Heiskell school experience.

I was not pleased with my Heiskell School experience. The curriculum did not properly prepare my child for the SSAT. When there were issues regarding grasping the material, the teachers were not willing to assist before or afterschool.

The Heiskell School is a wonderful Christian school with an outstanding academic curriculum! The administration is top notch and the teachers are wonderful! This is a must see for any parent looking for an awesome Christian education that does not settle for second best!
